Kemopop! is coming to Steam!!!!
I wasn't expecting to see this news today...!! Go check out the store page!!!
A big thank you to everyone who purchased the game on itch.io. Releasing something to Steam wasn't something I had on my agenda this year, and I would not have done it otherwise...
This has been a month-long arduous process of sending emails and wrestling with tax companies. But now we're here @w@!!
The Steam version of the game will benefit from Steam Cloud. Your game save will easily sync between a PC and a Steam Deck!! It runs really well on a Deck, too....
I bought the game on itch.io, will I get a Steam key?
If you bought the game on itch.io, you may now redeem a Steam key! You should be able to do this through your purchases page.
Grab your key from itch.io, then go to your Steam Library -> Add a Game -> Activate a Product on Steam to add Kemopop! to your Steam library. You will be able to play on Steam after the official launch date hits.
For most people, purchasing on itch.io will be the way to go. Customers in other countries may opt to purchase from Steam, as regional pricing may make the game cheaper in your region.
What is the future of Kemopop! on itch.io?
Nothing is changing. Kemopop!'s distribution process has been mostly automated, and I'll continue to update it here in sync with updates on Steam.
Why is it in Early Access?
It's accurate!! I am still sticking to my goal of 10 originally-drawn characters, and at least two stages for each.
When the game is "complete", the final sale price will be $4.99. I do not intend to raise this any further, but the game will occasionally join sale events on itch.io and Steam after this point.
What about Steam Community items (backgrounds, emoji, etc)?
Later!! Steam's process for these is another step of verification to make sure you're not making a junk game just to ship these. Also, they'll have to be work-safe, so I'll be making a bunch of cute things. Valve rules.
Why is there no macOS version on Steam?
Two reasons:
- Publishing macOS titles on Steam is a little annoying. I am required to go through Apple's app notarisation process on every new build.
- Naturally, the %age of macOS players is very low.
I am keen to add a macOS build later on, after the game is out of Steam Early Access and updates slow down for a final release.
Kemopop!'s update schedule may slow down as the game nears completion. During August, I will be touring the United States, but I'll try to do artwork when possible.

Oooh, can't wait
I didn't actually expect them to allow this, holy shit.
Edit: Will the art pack be available too?
I’ll admit I’ve been playing the game via steamdeck since the Linux build runs the game perfectly. Quite a nice portable game.
I wonder if plans for other ports could come out, officially or unofficially (such as a switch or even vita port using the android build as a base)?
there's no way Nintendo is going to publish this, and I don't own a vita.
I've been testing on the deck, though. tonight's update was done to allow for fully flexible resolution, so it'll use the full screen instead of letterboxing.
I said unofficially, like a homebrew scene where fans make custom games that can be added via modded methods. I don’t expect you would be able to make such ports, but I imagine there be fans of yours who, if they are interested, could reverse engineer the game to work on other platforms. Of course those games won’t be available in the official stores like eshop, but rather through modded means on a hacked device. For instance, Cave Story which officially only came out on PC and Nintendo platforms, but fans made unofficial ports to consoles like psp or vita.
yeah my curerncy s 1/3 of a dollar so its 3x more expensive :3 ill wait for the steam release
